Scott Guthrie announces Silverlight 1.0 for Mac/Windows is released and Silverlight for Linux is announced. Go read this announcement! Also of interest is Novell's discussion of the announcement (via Miguel).

Congrats to our sister team, Silverlight, who have built a great cross platform, cross browser plug-in that enables designers and developers to build rich media experiences and .NET based RIAs for the web!

As a member of the WPF team, I'm excited to see the excitement in the web community for Silverlight/Xaml. It is a good thing for developers, designers and users. It is also a good thing for WPF developers and designers...there will be more people (short term with 1.0) with Xaml skills and (long term with 1.1) with .Net and Xaml skills.

Great to see some strong uses of Silverlight 1.0 start hitting the web. Tafiti does a better job of using all the screen realestate that my 1600x1200 screen gives it than the election site.

Xaml rendering differences in Silverlight 1.0 and WPF - not a good thing - tell us about it...

I discovered a blog post earlier this week from mark-dot-net that talked about rendering differences between Silverlight and WPF with the same markup. I was very glad to find this. If anybody knows of any similar issues, please show us the Xaml!

ESRI Shape file to Xaml and JPG: He is working on a ESRI to Xaml converter.
SVG GIS applications destined to disappearance: He says that his company has been doing SVG based GIS software and believes that SVG isn't the way to go. Seems like Silverlight's vector support is interesting to them now. Likely his converter can output xaml that works in Silverlight and WPF.

Love the name. Looks like a great product too. Congrats to John Montgomery, Adam Nathan and the rest of the Popfly team on a great first splash.

So Gooey: Can You See The Button looks at JavaFX, Silverlight/Xaml, REBOL/View and Tcl/Tk.

Xaml is XML, so it has the namespaces.
We have 2 namespaces because Silverlight elements are in one, the Xaml Language has the "x:" concepts.
For inline code, you need CDATA inside of XML. (only if you have characters that confuse xml parsers)
Currently, you need x:Class if you want any event handlers.

Part of this is XML vs. code...

Having a bunch of tools that know how to parse the format, etc...

Perhaps somebody should look at drawing a smiley face with Shapes in the 4 formats?
